Sonos has a new CEO with an eye on integration

“We know that life at home requires the support of a variety of services,” [Patrick] Spence writes. And rather than partner with a single company, he says Sonos will work with everybody just like it did with music streaming apps: “We are going to do the same with voice services, bringing all the services that matter to every home.”

The article focuses heavily on the fact Sonos doesn’t have a digital assistant built into its speakers but I think that’s only half the issue. Their hardware is seriously dragging its feet at this point. No 7.1 support, not a word on a new Playbar with Dolby Atmos and a still cumbersome UX.

I can’t wait for their Alexa control integration but they have a long way to go to be innovators in the field again. Here’s hoping Spence can get them there!
