Facebook is now a dating app

At Facebook’s F8 developers conference today Facebook CEO announced a new “dating layer” would be introduced into its main mobile app later in the year.

The new “layer” is designed to allow users to connect making use of Facebook’s vast connected network in an attempt to take on dating platform rival Match Group, whom own both Tinder and OKCupid.

Zuckerberg joked the new functionality is designed to form “real, long-term relationships” instead of hookups and emphasised the fact that you’d only be matched or shown to people you aren’t friends with already.

“We have designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning. Your friends aren’t going to see your profile, and you’re only going to be suggested to people who are not your friends.”

With the amount of data that Facebook holds about its users it could potentially draw from a large pool and theoretically be able to construe the best match for an individual.

Strangely that’s exactly what the professionals on “Married at first sight” do and just look how great they do! (Yes I’ve watched a season of MAFS, I hate myself too)
