YouTube Red launches in Australia today

Available in the US since November 2015, YouTube Red is YouTube’s premium paid ad-free service with original platform-funded content and offline access — and it is launching in Australia today.

YouTube Red membership will ordinarily set you back $11.99 per month, but there’s an introductory offer of $9.99 per month — with the first month free — if you sign up before 6 June. “The lion’s share” of the membership fee goes to the creators, just like with YouTube advertising revenue, Anand told Gizmodo.

For the uninitiated YouTube Red removes ads from playback, gives you access to premium programming, offline play and YouTube Music.

Australia is the first market outside of the US to receive the new service which is great to see. A nation of pirates apparently leads to some nice perks. Looking forward to check it out.
