From John Luc and his Mychonny channel to Christiaan Van Vuuren’s Bondi Hipsters, Australian content creators are pushing creative boundaries and drawing huge online audiences in Australia and around the world. In fact, the majority of home-grown Aussie content is ‘exported’ – 9 out of 10 views of Australian YouTube content come from overseas.
Still, there’s much to do in encouraging more local creators to share their talents online, and develop new scripted shows and formats.
To help support the next generation of Australian storytellers, YouTube is teaming up with Screen Australia to launch the ‘Skip Ahead’ program, aimed at encouraging more talent to take up the online screen.
