You can register to pre-order a PS5 in the US

Sony today added a registration form on their US PlayStation site that offers buyers the chance of pre-ordering their new PS5 console ahead of its Holiday 2020 release.

There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation

For many the move is their worst fears realised in that Sony’s supply chain of the new console will be extremely limited with first dibs potentially going to existing US customers that are a part of their PlayStation Network (PSN).

It goes on to detail that the pre-order selection process isn’t simply randomised and will instead be “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities”.

There’s also no price available for the PS5 meaning Sony could simply be embarking on a campaign to gauge how many of its faithful are willing to commit to the console’s purchase at whatever price point they set for their first supply run and maximise return.

Aussie’s have been told we’re unlikely to get a lottery system such as this, with pre-orders going through the regular outlets when more details (and an actual price) are available.
