Twitter to reinvent itself with a 24hr streaming news service

Twitter will partner with Bloomberg as part of its plans to stream live video 24 hours a day, The Wall Street Journal reports. The deal will see Bloomberg producing news programming specifically for Twitter, mixing live news reported from Bloomberg’s global bureaus with videos posted by verified Twitter users, and streaming around the clock.

So now Twitter wants to be a TV network? Sort of?

I see this as Twitter turning the tables on their platforms conventional use. Instead of Q&A showing a Twitter ticker on their screen Twitter are now pushing the video into their streams enabling virtually unfiltered conversation.

Their experiments with the live streaming of NFL games last year were far from a success though. Return on investment for audience growth weren’t sustained off the back of the broadcasts.

24hr-news has the potential to have more of an impact, especially with the one man Twitter show that is Donald Frump, but I’m not sure it’s the silver bullet Twitter are so desperately in search of.
