Cybertruck is designed to have the utility of a truck with sports car performance.
I don’t think I’ve seen anything generate more memes in such as short space of time as the new Tesla Cybertruck has.
You’re either going to look at it and love it, or you’re going to piss yourself laughing and compare it to ‘The Homer‘ from the Simpsons.
It looks like most are in the later. Musk’s personal fortune took a dive after the announcement. US$770m was wiped off the billionaire’s estimated US$20b net-worth hours after the event finished.
As for the truck, looks aside, it’s quite an impressive bit of kit. Forged from the same metal used by Tesla’s sister company SpaceX in their rockets, the Cybertruck comes in single, duel or tri-motor configurations.
The tri-motor version is capable of towing up to 14,000lbs (6.3t) and has a 500mi (800km) range. It’s also faster than a Porche, going from 0-60mph in just 2.9s.
Production is due to begin in late 2021 with Tesla hoping that EV rebates remain in full-swing in the US. Without them the truck will be beyond accessible for most and despite the alleged 146,000 pre-orders taken already will prove difficult to shift.
