Sonos buys local voice assistant startup ‘Snips’

Sonos […] has acquired voice assistant startup Snips in a US$37 million cash deal.

Snips have been working on processing voice assistant requests locally instead of remotely processing them like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Voice Assistant.

If they can pull it off it would have a huge appeal to those of us more privacy conscious. I doubt it could do everything locally but even if it’s a subset of smart-home & music commands that alone would be a huge win and likely more than what most people need.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes of it!
