Pocket Casts acquired by NPR lead podcast production group

Today we’re excited to announce a partnership with some of the biggest producers of podcasts in the world to take Pocket Casts to the next level.

Russell and his team have long been a cornerstone in the Australian app development community. Pocket Casts along with all the work Shift Jelly have done from their Adelaide base have been paramount to the thriving community we see today.

The news of their sale, or rather fold into this extraordinary group of podcasting producers including WNYC, NPR, WBEZ and This American Life is further testament to their resolve around creating an app that’s the best they can make for its users and not the most money.

Eluded to in the company’s blog post on the sale it’s mentioned they’ve been approached numerous times in one way or another to sell but have always had the same answer, “No”. The difference with this proposal being the nature of the group and the goal of its members, all fantastic podcast producers themselves who want to see the best from its community.

Moving forward Pocket Casts users can expect the same great app and feature set we’ve come to love. The new holding group will enable the same team to grow, add new features and further enrich our experience.

Congratulations to the team, I look forward to see what comes next.
