Microsoft announces new Surface 2 & Surface 2 Pro

Peter Bright at Ars Technica:

Microsoft is sticking to the same basic form factors and concepts that it first demonstrated last summer. Both tablets are iterations of the design we’ve already seen with the first-generation Surface products.

So there’s two new devices; the Surface 2 (formerly RT) starting at AUD$529 and the Surface Pro 2 starting at AUD$1019. Both come with upgraded internals, but essentially have the same hardware design as before.

One notable difference I appreciated; the kickstand has been tweaked on both, and can now flip out to a second, more leanback-friendly angle.

There’s also a range of new accessories which will be rolled out with the new devices, as well as Microsoft bundling in 200GB of SkyDrive storage, free Skype interational calls and Skype Wifi access. Check out Lifehacker AU for more details on Australian pricing.
