The Verge’s Nick Statt on the new LG V20:
LG took the wraps off the V20, its latest Android flagship, at an event in San Francisco this evening. The phone, a successor to last year’s V10, is the first to ship with Google’s latest Android 7.0 Nougat.
Love the look of Nougat, especially the screen split for multiple apps to be running side by side. It’s a shame Nougat is barely recognisable under the heavily themed LG mush on top.
Like it’s predecessor the V20 contains a dual-camera system and a second display located at the top of the phone. Both have been upgraded in this year’s model; the cameras are more capable and the second display is now brighter with bigger font.
Second display is cool/weird/unnecessary. Not sure about this one but it’s essentially what Apple are doing with the new MacBook if rumours are true.
More importantly, the V20 not only retains the headphone jack some phone makers are trying to phase out, but it also packs in some audiophile-grade features for music lovers who like lossless file formats and expensive headphones.
Headphone jack. Yeah, yeah. That’ll be gone next year. I’m personally not a loseless user to care about the added features here but there must be a market for it.
Looks like a solid iteration but it’s not a jump ship phone that woos me away.
