Entrepreneur Graeme Wood’s experiment with philanthropically funded journalism on the web has come to an abrupt end after he told the staff of his website, The Global Mail, that he was no longer going to fund the site.
I liked the idea of the Global Mail, but my initial reaction to this piece was, “Oh yeah, that was the newspaper with the weird sideways design. Whatever happened to them?”
I just never saw their stuff being shared anywhere. Maybe I’m just some tech jerk that doesn’t roll in the right circles, but you can’t run a media business unless you’re visible, and to me, they were invisible.
