HTC announce Vive’s pricing for tomorrow’s pre-orders

We are proud to announce, in partnership with Valve®, the unveiling of the consumer edition of the ViveTM virtual reality system powered by Steam®VR. The countdown has begun and is ticking away toward 10 a.m. Eastern time on Monday 2/29 [2am Tuesday 30/2 AEDST] at which time pre-orders will open worldwide with pre-order fulfilment and full commercial availability starting early April 2016.

The Vive will be priced at $799 and for a limited time the consumer edition will also ship with two fully-fledged VR experiences to get you started in the virtual world.

It looks like HTC is going for a one-US-dollar-price approach unlike Oculus whom went the regional route. At current exchange that’s A$1120. That’s the same price as the Oculus but doesn’t account for any potential shipping costs.

Another point to note is that it looks like pricing is to increase at some point with HTC’s release stating it’s $799 price is “for a limited time”. It’ll be interesting to see how long it lasts and what it gets elevated to!
