Fitbit’s chase of the Apple Watch’s dominance is heating up today with the announcement of their new Versa 2 smartwatch.

The new version propels the Versa lineup into a truly competitive space with both a new OLED display and Alexa voice assistant integration. Use of the voice assistant might feel very one sided however, the Versa 2 remains without a speaker meaning all responses are displayed as text.

The Versa 2 maintains its as expected focus on fitness and includes many features an apps such as sleep tracking and a future program on sleep wellness that Apple lack.

Fitbit also maintain superiority in battery life. Lasting for over 5 days, the new Versa 2 can also be used in an “Always-On Display” mode. This new mode does away with the automatic screen activation when you lift or rotate your wrist and still manages to last multiple days without a recharge.

The new Versa 2 now includes NFC for all models however lacks even the option of GPS, meaning you’ll likely want your phone still for tracking outdoor runs or bike rides.
