Nearly two years ago, we announced that Chrome would eventually mark all sites that are not encrypted with HTTPS as “not secure”.
Starting today, we’re rolling out these changes to all Chrome users.
Launched today, Chrome 68 makes good on Google’s promise for the browser to push whole heartedly for an encrypted web.
It will be interesting, especially for me as a web developer, how big of an impact this will have and how general consumers (whom may not understand the technical aspect of the notification) will react.
With that said, it’s almost harder to NOT have SSL running on your website and with free services like Cloudflare and Let’s Encrypt out there there’s no reason not to.
