Amazon’s Echo is now available in the UK & Germany. No Australia yet.

Amazon has confirmed its virtual assistant Echo speakers are coming to the UK, Germany and Austria.Until now, the company sold its voice-controlled devices only in the US.

The machines can answer questions, control other internet-connected devices, build shopping lists and link in to dozens of third-party services including Spotify, Uber and BBC News.

It’s a start. Amazon’s Echo is by far the best piece of imported gear I’ve purchased towards my “smart home” setup.

In addition to the announcement of it’s availability across the pond Amazon also significantly dropped the price of the Echo Dot from US$90 to US$50. The Dot can be connected to any speaker via Bluetooth or the now antiquated 3.5mm jack.
