A look behind Channel 7’s new gaming show ScreenPLAY

And so the strategy was formed: screenPLAY, as its now known, would be a gaming platform producing weekly broadcast shows for 7mate, while creating daily digital content for Facebook, YouTube and Twitch. The TV show would be shot the morning it went to air, offering more speed and flexibility.”

The thing that was really appealing to me, was that they were really clear that it was a digital push as well,” Richardson outlined. “They were completely behind the idea that we were making daily digital stuff, we’re on Twitch, we’re on Youtube, we’re not gated behind Seven paywalls, Yahoo, that kind of stuff.”

This is a fantastic piece by Kotaku Australia’s Alex Walker.

There’s been a hell of a lot of questions about the new show, its format, what the mindset was in moving away from the ABC and Alex covers it all and more in great detail.

A great read and one that I think will put a lot of minds to rest over issues being attached to a commercial network may bring.

Really looking forward to the content to begin rolling out, all the best to the show & team behind it!
