Review: Nokia 8110 4G – The re-released “Matrix” phone

Do you remember The Matrix? It was a film that came out way back in 1999 when I was a teenager and some of you skipping this and clicking “Play” were barely born. God I feel old.

Anyway, in that movie (lets ignore the 2 sequels that followed) its main character, an up and coming star you may have heard of, Keanu Reeves, plays this nerdy accountant type dude who has a phone delivered from out of nowhere that when removed from its envelope slides down to reveal its keypad along with the jaws of every geek watching the film and wanting to own it.

Well, it was released and it was good (back then). Now HMD Global, the guys who now license the Nokia name since Nokia kinda stuffed that up, have decided it might be a good time to bring the iconic Nokia 8110 back with a few, more up-to-date features like 4G chucked in for good measure.

We had one sent to us to check out after they became available in Australia last month and whilst she ain’t going to be the phone of your dreams it was certainly “interesting” to take a look at and reminisce about the smartphone days of old.

Enjoy.
