Snapchat releases its first piece of hardware: Spectacles

What initially appears to be a normal pair of sunglasses turns out to be Spectacles, the first hardware product from [Snapchat]. When you slip Spectacles on and tap a button near the hinge, it records up to 10 seconds of video from your first-person vantage. Each new tap records another clip.

Brought to you by the company with possibly the worst UI in history comes their first foray into the hardware market with Google Glass Spectacles.

I don’t really understand how Snap Inc. (the new company name for Snapchat) have managed to get where they are. Marketing? Millennials? Money? Another “m” word? Who knows, all I know is that I’m kind of in awe of it.

As for the actual product, they take the best of what was Google Glass, make them fashionable (I presume), and simple to use – something Snap Inc aren’t known for.

Will I buy them? No. Will millions of others. Yes.

Available later this year Spectacles will set you back US$130.
