Apple is apparently set to ditch the butterfly mechanism used in MacBooks since 2015, which has been the root of reliability issues and its low-travel design has also not been popular with many Mac users.

According to a report published by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will replace its bugbear butterfly switch keyboards with a new scissor switch version beginning later this year.

Starting with the MacBook Air, the new keyboard is said to be replaced across the board with it being incorporated into next year’s early MacBook Pro version also.

The butterfly keyboard has long been a problem for the company, which just recently extended its repair program to cover literally any model that’s ever had one.
