{"id":6153,"date":"2017-06-14T10:52:57","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T00:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reckoner.com.au\/?p=6153"},"modified":"2017-06-14T10:52:57","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T00:52:57","slug":"e3-2017-nintendo-direct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reckoner.com.au\/features\/e3-2017-nintendo-direct\/","title":{"rendered":"E3 2017: Nintendo Direct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finally, the last one&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo held their &#8220;Direct&#8221; overnight, streaming the presentation worldwide as they&#8217;ve done the past few years instead of holding a physical briefing.<\/p>\n<p>This year, with the Switch now officially released, there was no expectation they&#8217;d be talking about hardware and meant they could focus solely on the games.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Yoshi for Nintendo Switch - Official Game Trailer - Nintendo E3 2017\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sx_C9jJ0AlA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Yoshi<\/em>, a new simultaneous 2-player, platformer was one of the first titles announced. It has an aesthetic akin to Nintendo&#8217;s yarn titles but with more of a diorama feel. It has a very Little Big Planet feel to me, which is a fun game I loved.<\/p>\n<p>During play the world can be &#8220;flipped&#8221; to help solve puzzles and progress through the world. Yoshi for Switch is due out next year.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kirby for Nintendo Switch - Official Game Trailer - Nintendo E3 2017\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cc3PAAije0Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Similarly a new Kirby title was announced for the Switch coming in 2018.\u00a0From the trailer shown it appears to harken even further back to Nintendo&#8217;s platform roots. The main point of difference the game allowing up to 4 player co-op, something you can of course do with a single Switch &#8211; at a party, you know, with all your mates drinking beers on a roof-top. (Sorry I had to get one dig in at least)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Expansion Pass - Nintendo E3 2017\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h1GakpHZFpg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A new expansion &#8220;pass&#8221; for Zelda: Breath of the Wild is coming. The pass will give you access to the three upcoming DLC packs &#8220;Master Trials,\u201d \u201cThe Champions\u2019 Ballad\u201d and a third yet to be named.\u00a0The first pack will be available June 30th and include: Trial of the Sword, Master Mode, Hero\u2019s Path, Travel Medallion, Korok Mask and eight new armors.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t all about the Switch. Nintendo continues to show some love to it&#8217;s &#8220;true&#8221;? portable platform the 3DS with announcements for a new Metroid title called &#8220;<em>Samus Returns<\/em>&#8221; as well as the short and sweetly named\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OI54_yxpwkY\"><em>Mario &amp; Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser&#8217;s Minions<\/em><\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Metroid: Samus Returns - Official Game Trailer - Nintendo E3 2017\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UhOx-FpEAQk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Metroid: Samus Returns\u00a0<\/em>will be available September 15th with Mario and Luigi coming later in the year on October 17th.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lets be honest though, we all wanted more details on the upcoming <em>Super Mario Odyssey<\/em> and thankfully Nintendo were up to the challenge. The new trailer shows Mario&#8217;s use of &#8220;Cappy&#8221; and how it can be thrown onto enemies and environmental NPCs (like human beings) to take control of them.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Mario Odyssey - Game Trailer - Nintendo E3 2017\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wGQHQc_3ycE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vooks.net\/e3-2017-hands-super-mario-odyssey\/\">Vooks<\/a>, the best resource for Nintendo info in Australia has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vooks.net\/e3-2017-hands-super-mario-odyssey\/\">detailed write up of their hands on<\/a> with Mario Odyssey that I encourage anyone after more details to take a look at. They will do it a far better justice than I ever could.<\/p>\n<p>Also announced was Odyssey&#8217;s official release date, moved up significantly earlier than I ever expected to October 27th.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally Nintendo left us all with the bitter-sweet reveal\u00a0that Metroid Prime 4 is in fact being developed.
