With 2020 being the year of remote working, a lot of people needed a lot of new equipment to work from home and it appears the soup de jour was the humble Chromebook.<\/p>\n

Beginning the year on par with Mac sales Chromebooks slowly gapped its nearest rival before hitting an explosion of growth as the pandemic continued.<\/p>\n

The Chrome OS powered devices naturally have a price advantage over Macs, with even the cheapest Mac portable a long way north of Chromebook price tags that often begin in the hundreds instead of the thousands.<\/p>\n

The big loser here isn’t Apple however, whilst Chrome OS may have shot passed it with 10.8% of sales (up from 6.4% in 2019), Macs too have increased their share hitting 7.5% (up from 6.7%) with the two eating into the lucrative Windows market down to 80.5% in 2020.<\/p>\n
