Watching porn in the UK could mean having to verify your age at your local newsagent

…the [British Board of Film Classification] BBFC is suggesting a more anonymous option: their local newsstand. The stores would sell a “porn pass,” a 16-digit code for around £10, and would require a driver’s license or passport to verify the buyer’s age. That method wouldn’t require someone to enter their personal information into an online database.

Last year the UK’s government passed a new series of laws that included the requirement of online pornography platforms to verify a user’s age before allowing them access.

Some online services have popped up to facilitate this verification but with the new GDPR laws the whole issue of keeping or validating people’s personal details has made this even more complicated. Not to mention the fact people don’t want to have to verify their details online only to have them leaked, farmed, hacked or otherwise.

The alternate solution being offered is popping down to the shops and instead of glancing at the covered porn mag covers that once used to be next to Better Homes & Gardens you’ll now be handing over your ID to be judged and buying a proof of age card to watch your porn at home.
